Welcome Praise 106.5 Listeners!

As pastor of the First Baptist Church, I am happy to welcome all our guests who have found us by way of our partnership with Praise 106.5.  We are glad to have you visit our website and I hope you will visit us in person as well.  If you are in town, please drop by to say “hi”.  If you’re just able to visit online you’re invited to leave a comment below.

I would love the opportunity to know you better.  To help us connect it is my hope that when we meet in person, perhaps this Sunday, we can set a time to go grab a cup of java at your favorite Port Angeles coffee house.  The coffee is my treat.

I’d also like to take this chance to let you get to know us a little better.  This is our church’s 125th year in ministry here in Port Angeles.  We are intentionally using this landmark year to help us build excitement for how we can continue to share the “Good News” with our neighbors that Jesus is “the Way, the Truth and the Life”.

We do this in a number of ways.  For example, perhaps you’ve seen on Facebook the invitation to listen to the TED talk by the International Justice Mission (IJM) founder, Gary Haugen.  If not, it’s worth watching and you can see it here:

In June of this year we will get to house a group of young people who are bicycling from Seattle to Portland to bring attention to what the IJM is doing to fight human trafficking and other abuses of the world’s most poor and vulnerable.  We will host a dinner presentation where these noble cyclists will share with us how we can be involved to make a difference.

We strive also to help our church be a united body.  The challenges to mix the generations can be difficult, but we have found a system that works!  We host two worship services, a 9:30 traditional service and a 11:00 contemporary service which allows people to praise Jesus with their music that most stirs their hearts… but we do much to mix the generations in the ways we study scripture in small groups, serve our community with outreach activities such as our annual barbecue and our harvest festival.  Both of these events are offered free to our community.

My favorite church family activity is when we rent out Camp David Jr. on Lake Crescent and go on a church-wide camping trip over Memorial Day Weekend!

I want to express my gratitude to Praise 106.5 for sharing about First Baptist with their listening community.  It should be noted that this has been done purely as an act of joining in ministry with churches seeking to bring the hope of Christ to their communities.  No money has changed hands between our church and Praise 106.5 for their generous support of our congregation.  This great radio station is just one of many ministries overseen by a larger missional agency call CRISTA Ministries.  If you are unfamiliar with all that CRISTA does, I encourage you to spend some time looking over their website.

Thank you for stopping by our website and I hope to welcome you in person at one of our Sunday services sometime soon.

Blessings,
Pastor Tim
