Jesus Tells of God's Love

Matthew 6:25-34; Luke 12:22-31

BIG IDEA: We can be sure that God loves and cares for us.

GET TALKING:

  • How does God care for the birds? (He gives them food to eat.)
  • How does God care for the flowers? (He gives them sun and rain to grow.)
  • Jesus was teaching people that they shouldn't worry about things. If God cares for the birds and flowers, how much more will he care for you! What are some ways God cares for you? (Examples: family, friends, warm homes, food, clothes, etc.)

ACTION PLAN: Talk about different ways that God takes care of you and your family.

PRAYER: Thank God for always caring for us.

JANUARY MEMORY VERSE:

"The Lord is good to all; He has compassion on all He has made." Psalms 145:9

River Wonders

Matthew 3:1-17

BIG IDEA: Following God means loving Him and doing what He wants me to do.

GET TALKING:

  • What was something unusual about John? (He wore camel’s-hair clothing)
  • What did he like to eat? (Locusts and honey)
  • What did John want people to know? (Jesus was the One sent by God.)
  • Why do you think Jesus wanted to obey God? (He wanted to follow God. He knew God’s ways are the best ways.)

CONNECTING TO JESUS: Jesus is the Savior the people had been waiting for. To prepare for Jesus’ coming, John told the people that they needed to stop doing wrong and start doing what was right. When we believe that Jesus is the Savior, stop doing wrong and start doing what is right, we show that we welcome Jesus as our King.

ACTION PLAN: Evaluate the things I do, say and think, and plan ways to show love to God.

JANUARY MEMORY VERSE:

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." Mark 12:30
