The Good Samaritan

Luke 10:25-37

BIG IDEA: God wants us to have compassion for others.

GET TALKING:

  • What happened to the man hurt along the road? (Mean men beat him up and stole his money.)
  • What did the first 2 travelers do when they saw the hurt man? (Walked right by him. Kept going down the road.)
  • What did the third traveler (the Samaritan) do? (Took care of him. Stopped and bandaged his sores, put him on a donkey, took him to an inn and made sure he was taken care of.)
  • Which traveler showed God's love to the hurt man? (3rd traveler, the Samaritan)

ACTION PLAN: Give examples of ways to show God's love to people who need help.

Walking on Water

Matthew 14:22-36; 16:13-16

BIG IDEA: Because Jesus is God’s Son, I can trust Him when I’m afraid.

GET TALKING:

  • Why do you think Peter had the courage to step out of the boat and walk to Jesus?
  • What words would you use to describe Peter at the beginning of the story? At the end?
  • What amazing truth about Jesus did Peter discover? (Jesus is the Savior, the Son of the living God. He could trust Jesus to help him in every situation.)

CONNECTING TO JESUS: Jesus showed His power by walking on the water. But when Jesus told His friends, “It is I. Don’t be afraid,” Jesus was telling them who He really was - God Himself! They could trust Him in every situation, and we can too!

ACTION PLAN: Discuss tough situations in which God can help me and give me wisdom.

FEBRUARY MEMORY VERSE:

"For I am the Lored, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you." Isaiah 41:13
